Who are our Students?
We believe that a future leader can present in many different ways. The only critical piece is that a student wants to take the opportunity to learn and grow as a leader. The Student Leadership Academy student may be an independent and passionate leader motivated to expand and grow their leadership skills in preparation for goals after high school experience. They may be someone who never saw themselves as a leader, but wants to learn what real leadership is actually about. They may be a future valedictorian, or a student who has struggled academically. They may be any race, gender, or any other identifier. Once chosen through our opt-in or lottery processes, SLA students are taught to engage in creative thinking processes, encouraged to pursue inclusivity and empowered to find solutions to increase the spirit, culture and climate at Fossil Ridge.
The SLA student may also be a dreamer, seeking an opportunity to explore and achieve their goals as defined by them. They may be determined to collaborate with other students and other groups at Fossil Ridge, or they may need to be taught how to collaborate. SLA students will learn to develop skills to provide them success in college and/or the career of their choice. These skills include collaboration, effective communication, engaging in the brainstorming process and having the ability to think critically to solve problems.
In short, the SLA student is YOU, if you want in.
